The Worcester Railers made an acquisition a couple of weeks into the season. They signed forward Kolby Johnson to an ECHL contract. He will blend nicely with the current talent the Worcester Railers have skating, and he has plenty of professional hockey experience.
The 26-year-old Johnson joins Worcester from the Pensacola Ice Flyers of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). The 6’3″, 212-pound forward appeared in three games for Pensacola to start the 2024-25 season, recording one goal, 30 penalty minutes, and a -1 rating. He began the season at training camp with the Tulsa Oilers. Johnson’s professional career began in 2023-24 with the Macon Mayhem of the SPHL and the Danbury Hat Tricks of the Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL). Over his pro career, he has registered six points (3G, 3A), 79 penalty minutes, and a -1 rating in 10 games.
Before turning pro, Johnson played five seasons in USports, representing Trinity Western University and York University. In 51 games, the Rosetown, SK native posted 10 points (5G, 5A) and accumulated 122 penalty minutes. He also spent six seasons in various junior leagues, including the WHL, SJHL, QMJHL, and MJHL. Over 202 junior games, Johnson tallied 43 points (18G, 25A) and 412 penalty minutes.
There is no doubt he has proven himself to be at the skill level of the ECHL. He plans to back up that experience on the ice and be a valuable asset to the team. Kolby Johnson is hungry for more experience and the Worcester Railers will give it to him.
