On Monday, the Worcester Railers made a splash when they signed forward Griffin Loughran from the Savannah Ghost Pirates. He comes over after being a rookie with the Savannah Ghost Pirates for the 2023-24 season, where he played five games for the club. In his short sample size, he only recorded two assists while remaining quiet, trying to find the back of the net.
Prior to professional hockey, Griffin Loughran played five seasons of collegiate hockey. He played between Northern Michigan University, Michigan State, and Canisius College between 2018 and 2023. Over those five seasons, Loughran scored 99 total points in 131 games played. Loughran scored 32 points in conference and was named WCHA scoring champion with Northern Michigan.
Even before Griffin Loughran played collegiate hockey, he played 50 games for the Fargo Force of the United States Hockey League. He was quite impressive, with 42 points, 18 goals, and 24 assists. His team won the Clark Cup, and Griffin Loughran himself won the Clark Cup MVP. During the Fargo Force playoff run, he played 13 games for his team and scored seven goals and two assists.
“I got a little taste at the end of my college season, now I’m really looking forward to getting a full season under my belt,” Loughran said. “I’ve been to Worcester to play against Holy Cross, I love everything about the city. It’s pretty close to Boston, and the people were great there. Everyone’s coming in with a chip on their shoulder, which I can get behind. I’m really excited to get going.”

The entire Worcester Railers organization this season is coming in with a chip on their shoulder. Time and time again, with their current play, they have not been able to get over that hump. New signings like Griffin Loughran have proven to help the team get there. The Railers know they have the pieces to get the job done, and they just need to put them together.
