The Worcester Railers have announced that they’ve traded forward Matthew Boudens to the Fort Wayne Komets in exchange for future considerations. This is the second time this season that the 31-year-old forward has been traded after he began the season with the Cincinnati Cyclones. Boudens has two goals and one assist for three points, along with 71 minutes in penalties. Worcester recently suspended Boudens before being traded to Fort Wayne. The Pembroke, Ontario, native has been out with an injury since December 29th but has been seen behind the bench helping out Nick Tuzzolino, who recently took over the head coaching gig in Worcester. This is a solid move for the Komets, who add physicality and veteran presence to the locker room.
This will be a reunion for Boudens as he began his career with the Fort Wayne Komets, playing four years for the team while putting up 24 goals and 32 assists for 56 points, along with 244 PIMS in 123 games. Boudens is in his sixth year in the ECHL, where he’s put up 33 goals and 47 assists for 80 points, along with 304 PIMS in 204 games with the Fort Wayne Komets, Savannah Ghost Pirates, Cincinnati Cyclones, and Worcester Railers. He would add six goals and five assists for 11 points in 23 Kelly Cup Playoff games with the Komets. Prior to going pro, Boudens spent three seasons in the QMJHL with the Drummondville Voltigeurs, where he put up 48 goals and 62 assists for 110 points, along with 304 PIMs. He would then spend five seasons with the University of New Brunswick, where he put up 19 goals and 50 assists for 69 points, along with 335 PIMs in 150 games. He would win back-to-back USports Championships in 2018 and 2019 with New Brunswick.
