The Worcester Railers regular season is winding down, but there is always time to make more transactions. The team announced they will be signing forward Matthew Kopperud to an Amateur Tryout Agreement.
Prior to coming to Worcester, Matthew played three games on an amateur tryout with the Bridgeport Islanders of the AHL. Before his time professionally, Matthew played his four-year collegiate career at Arizona State University. In his final collegiate season, we saw him put up a career-high in goals with 23, which also tied the program record.
During his time at Arizona State, Kopperud played 118 total games, with 64 goals and 43 assists. He led Arizona with 41 power-play goals and 11 game-winning goals. In four reason he finished a remarkable second in career points and career goals. Matthew Kopperud will be a valued addition to the Worcester Railers.
In addition, the team will also be releasing forward Ryan Scarfo. Before arriving in Worcester this season Ryan Scarfo also played for the Savannah Ghost Pirates. Scarfo played in 56 games for the Savannah Ghost Pirates before arriving in Worcester. During that stretch he scored four goals and eight assists for a total of 12 total points.
Before being released by the Worcester Railers, he played only 11 games, in which he had four assists; his lack of production may have been one reason for his release.
Whichever team picks up Scarfo, he will be a welcomed addition. He has proven that he can be productive in professional hockey. That production was not shown in Worcester. As the Kelly Cup playoffs are right around the corner, the Railers made some much-needed transactions.
