The Trois-Rivieres Lions have suspended goaltender Zachary Emond to keep his ECHL right as he’s overseas to Slovakia to play with HC Banska Bystrica. Emond, 24, played in 13 games this season with the Lions, putting up a record of 10-3 with a 2.21 GAA, .927SV%, and one shutout, he hasn’t played since January 31st. This doesn’t come as a surprise, as the Lions had a very busy net to begin the year, with Luke Cavallin and Hunter Jones each on AHL deals and spending most of their season with Trois-Rivieres. It will be a huge loss for Trois-Rivieres not to have the luxury of carrying three strong goaltenders on their roster.
Prior to going pro, the St-Cyprien, Quebec native spent parts of five seasons in the QMJHL with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and Saint Johns Sea Dogs. In 129 games in the Q, he went 70-42-12 with a 2.99 GAA, .904SV%, and nine shutouts. He would win the Jacque Plante Award in 2019, given to the goaltender with the lowest GAA in the Q (1.73), and a Memorial Cup Championship with the Huskies. Emond is in his fourth pro season after being drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the sixth round of the 2018 NHL Draft. He’s spent time in the AHL and ECHL. In the three-letter league, he’s put up a record of 3-4-4 with a 4.48 GAA and .867SV%. At the ECHL level, he’s put up better numbers, going 28-15-2 with a 2.80 GAA, .909SV%, and four shutouts.
