Trois-Rivieres Lions goaltender Zachary Emond has been named the ECHL Goaltender of the Week, beginning December 2nd and ending December 9th. The 24-year-old goaltender went 2-0 with a 1.00 GAA and .929 SV% in two starts, including a 35 shutout vs Maine Mariners on Sunday. This is the second time in his career Emond has been named Goaltender of the Week with the first coming last April. In five starts this season, Emond is 4-1 with a 1.78 GAA, .944SV%, and one shutout.
Coming into the 2024-25 season, Emond wasn’t expected to get much playing time, with Luke Cavallin and Hunter Jones both being sent down to the Lions. As a team, the Lions are fifth in the league, allowing 2.33 Goals per game. The former sixth-round of the San Jose Sharks is in his fourth year in the ECHL as he’s put up a 22-13-2 record with a 2.87 GAA, .908SV%, and four shutouts while spending time with the Orlando Solar Bears, Wichita Thunder, and Trois-Rivieres Lions. He started all six games for Trois-Rivières during the opening round of last year’s Kelly Cup Playoffs.
Prior to going pro, the St-Cyprien, Quebec native spent five seasons in the QMJHL, where he put up a 70-42-12 record with a 2.99 GAA, .904SV%, and nine shutouts while spending time with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and St. Johns Sea Dogs. He would win a Memorial Cup in 2019 with the Sea Dogs while also winning the Jacques Plante Trophy for best GAA (1.73), and he also had the best SV%(.932)
