Edmonton Oilers Forward Undergoes Surgery

The Edmonton Oilers will face the Chicago Blackhawks tomorrow night. The Oilers are coming off a 5-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night which saw their four-game win streak snapped. Today news broke that forward Evander Kane underwent knee surgery on Thursday. The injury is not related to the abdominal surgery that he underwent in September. The recent surgery will cause him to pause his current rehab and recovery is 4-8 weeks. If he’s unable to return this season the team can use his $5.125 cap hit in LTIR. Kane hasn’t played since game two of the Stanley Cup.

Evander Kane

Kane is in his 15th season of his career. The Atlanta Thrashers drafted the Vancouver native fourth overall by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. In his rookie season, he played in 66 games. Kane recorded 26 points on 14 goals and 12 assists that season. He finished his time with the Thrashers/Winnipeg Jets playing in 361 games. He recorded 222 points on 109 goals and 113 assists, he was a minus-ten. Winnipeg traded Kane to the Buffalo Sabres on February 11, 2015. He played in 196 games with the Sabres recording 118 points on 68 goals and 50 assists. The Sabres then traded Kane to the San Jose Sharks on February 26, 2018. He played in 212 games with the Sharks recording 166 points on 87 goals and 79 assists.

The Oilers signed Kane on January 27, 2022, after being released by the Sharks on January 9, 2022. With the Oilers, he’s played in 161 games recording 111 points on 62 goals and 49 assists. Last season, in 77 games he had 44 points on 24 goals and 20 assists.
