The Edmonton Oilers announced hiring new assistant coach Mark Stuart on Wednesday. Stuart was an assistant at his alma mater Colorado College in 2021-22. This will be the former NHL defenseman’s first NHL coaching job.
Stuart will assist Oilers’ Head Coach Jay Woodcroft with fellow assistants Glen Gulutzan and Dave Manson. Stuart was an assistant in 2020-21 at The University of Vermont under Woodcroft’s brother, Todd.
The former first-round pick (21st overall) of the Boston Bruins in 2003 played in 283 regular season games for Boston and 390 total for Atlanta and Winnipeg. His career totals were 26-67-93. The Rochester, Minnesota native finished his playing career overseas in 2018.
The 38-year-old joins an Edmonton Oilers team that lost in the Western Conference Final in four games to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche last season.
