Edmonton Oilers Signing Defenseman

The Edmonton Oilers picked up a 4-3 comeback win last night over the Colorado Avalanche. The Oilers went down 3-0 in the first period before adding four unanswered goals to pick up their fourth straight win and their eighth win in their last nine games. Today they added some blue line help as they’ve signed defenseman John Klingberg. It was reported the other day that Klingberg was eyeing a return to the NHL and now he has a home. Per Darren Dreger it is a one-year deal with a $1 million AAV and up to $350,000 in bonuses

John Klingberg

The Dallas Stars drafted Klingberg with the 131st overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. He will be playing in the 11th season of his career, he hasn’t played since November 11, 2023. He suffered with struggled with health issues the last couple of seasons. Last season he played in 14 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs, before having season-ending hip surgery.

He’s played in 633 career games. Klingberg has recorded 412 points on 81 goals and 331 assists. He is a career -40 and has 160 power-play points. Klingberg spent his first eight seasons with the Stars playing in 552 games recording 374 points on 71 goals and 303 assists. He was a minus-eight and had 148 power-play points. He then signed as a free agent with the Anaheim Ducks playing in 50 games. Klingberg recorded 24 points on eight goals and 16 points. he was a minus 28 and had six power-play points. The Ducks then traded Klingberg to the Minnesota Wild on March 3, 2023. With the Wild in 17 games, he had nine points on two goals and seven assists. He was a plus-three and had four power-play points. He signed with the Maple Leafs for last season. In those 14 games, he had five assists, was a minus serve,n and had two power-play points.
