The Pittsburgh Penguins have been quite busy on the opening day of NHL Free Agency. The Penguins announced that they’ve agreed to terms on a two-year contract with veteran forward Lars Eller. Eller made his NHL debut in the 2009-10 season and wouldn’t win a Stanley Cup until the 2017-18 season with the Washington Capitals.
Lars Eller was drafted 13th overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues but was quickly moved around the time that he made his NHL debut. Eller would then play six seasons with the Montreal Canadiens as a legitimate depth piece, it wasn’t until he went to Washington that he became a solid top-six option for teams. Eller played seven seasons in Washington, winning one Stanley Cup before being traded to the Colorado Avalanche at the 2023 Trade Deadline.
In Eller’s most recent season, he played 60 games with Washington and 24 games with Colorado. Eller posted seven goals and nine assists for 16 points with Washington, he would follow this up with three goals and four assists for seven points with Colorado.
Lars Eller will be an unrestricted free agent when his contract expires at the end of the 2024-25 season.
