The Boston Bruins have had a rash of injuries lately, and two of them have put a strain on the defensive core. One of the injured Bruins blueliners returned to practice in a red non-contact jersey on Wednesday. Hampus Lindholm made his return to practice at Warrior Ice Arena after skating on his own multiple times in the past week. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound defenseman registered three goals and four assists in the 17 games before his injury on November 12. Lindholm was moved to Long Term Injured Reserve Tuesday for salary cap reasons.
During his 29-game absence, the Bruins were on a streak of 16 games without a goal from the defensive core until getting recent goals from Parker Wotherspoon and Andrew Peeke. Charlie McAvoy was also lost to injury and placed in Injured Reserve retroactive to January 11. The Bruins have won two in a row and called up Michael Callahan for the first time, almost three seasons after acquiring him in a trade with the former Arizona Coyotes.
Wednesday’s appearance at practice by Lindholm could be proof that a return from his lower body injury will be coming soon. The Bruins are currently tied for third place in the Atlantic Division with the Tampa Bay Lightning, but Tampa Bay has four games in hand with Boston. The Bruins next game is Saturday at Ottawa.
