Calgary is coming to grips with a rough trend that they’ve begun to face this season. Jeremie Poirier is out indefinitely after he suffered a skate laceration on his arm in the Calgary Wranglers’ AHL game in Abbotsford on Sunday. The laceration will require surgery to repair, and Poirier’s timeline to return to the Wranglers is currently unknown.

The Flames were looking for more promising news, especially after awaiting news about Adam Ruzicka’s injury in Tuesday’s 3-1 loss against the New York Rangers. Poirier was delayed from participating in training camp this year after knee surgery kept him out longer than initially anticipated. Poirier was beginning his 2023-24 campaign on a mission. His one goal and seven points in the first four games helped propel the Wranglers to a 3-0-1 record.
Poirier was a second-round draft selection in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft to the Calgary Flames. This injury is untimely, as the Flames are already having a rough go with Jakob Pelletier and Kevin Rooney both out indefinitely due to shoulder surgeries after pre-season injuries. As the season progresses, the Flames and Wranglers hope to not lose any more players due to injury.
