The AHL Charlotte Checkers recalled Florida Everblades defenseman Zach Uens on Monday. The 22-year-old Belleville, ON native started his professional career in 2022 with the Checkers after finishing his season with Merrimack College. He split time between the Everblades and Checkers last season, playing 19 games for the Checkers and 35 for the Everblades. He also played 21 games for the Everblades in the Kelly Cup Championship-winning playoff run. Uens played two games with the Checkers in October and November before landing on the blue line with the Everblades this season. He’s scored two goals and 13 assists in 45 games with the Everblades this season.
Zach Uens played on the top defensive pairing with Will Reilly. His loss breaks up the Everblades’ top defensive pairing and leaves them with five defensemen, so I would expect to see them sign a defenseman from college or make a trade before their next game.
The Florida Everblades will host the Jacksonville Icemen on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Estero, Fla.
