Florida Panthers star forward Matthew Tkachuk missed Saturday’s game against the Seattle Kraken because of a lower-body injury. On Monday, while on 560 AM WQAM, Panthers coach Paul Maurice announced that Tkachuk will return this season at some point. It was unclear whether his return would be in the regular season or postseason.
Maurice told the Joe Rose Show that “there’s a possibility it’s not too serious, but there is a possibility it is a bit longer term. Even with that, he’s playing this season.” Tkachuk will have more testing done on Monday.
Tkachuk was injured during the Four Nations Face-Off while helping the United States to the tournament final. The winger was limited to 6:47 of ice time in the United States loss to Canada on Thursday.
The 27-year-old Tkachuk has 22 goals and 35 assists for the Panthers this season and led the Panthers to their first Stanley Cup in team history last season.
