Former Pittsburgh Penguin Brandon Sutter announced his retirement from the NHL yesterday after 13 seasons in the NHL. Sutter was on a professional tryout offer from the Edmonton Oilers but was released and announced his retirement shortly after.

Sutter spent three of his 13 years with the Penguins and only missed three games during those three seasons. He played 209 games with the Pens, scoring 45 goals and 78 points on the third line.

Sutter was drafted 11th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2007, in which he spent 286 games played with 53 goals and 107 points.

In Sutter’s career, he scored 152 goals and 289 points in 770 NHL games with the Pens, Canes, and Vancouver Canucks.

Sutter recorded nine goals and 18 points in 50 career playoff games with the Pens and Canucks.

Sutter did release a statement on his retirement, claiming that his health was the reason. However, he did mention that he was getting healthier but wanted to do what was best for him and his family.
