Four Teams Linked to Dylan Cozens

Four Teams Linked to Dylan Cozens

A short while ago Kevin Weekes reported that he’s heard from sources that four teams have expressed interest in Sabres forward Dylan Cozens. The four teams are the Montreal Canadiens, Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Detroit Red Wings. The Sabres are likely looking for a player in their early 20s to complete the deal. Cozens is under contract until after the 2029-30 season and him being only 23 years old. Cozens turns 24 on Sunday. He also wasn’t at practice today so a move may be coming shortly.

Dylan Cozens

Cozens was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres with the seventh overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. He’s in his fifth season all with Buffalo. In 333 games he’s recorded 192 points on 76 goals and 116 assists. His best season of his young career came in 2022-23. That season he played in 81 games recording a career high in points, goals, and assists. He had 68 points on 31 goals and 37 assists. This season in 53 games he has 26 points on ten goals and 16 assists.

Montreal Canadiens

It remains from Weekes when the teams were expressing interest. The Canadiens have hit a skid and fallen out of the playoff spot. Currently sitting at five points out of the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. They have three teams ahead of them for that final spot. Cozens would be a nice piece to pair with Patrik Laine that can give Montreal some scoring.

Calgary Flames

The Flames are battling with the Vancouver Canucks right now for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference. The Canucks have been selling pieces off while the Flames are looking to add. If they can add Cozens to a line with Blake Coleman that could be a piece the Flames would like offensively.

Toronto Maple Leafs

The Maple Leafs getting a player like Cozens would be a nice piece for them as he would slide into their third-line center role. It would give the Maple Leafs depth and the ability to mix things around. John Tavares and Auston Matthews have both missed some time already this season.

Detroit Red Wings

The Red Wings and Sabres had been in discussions before the roster freeze around Christmas. It was linked that the player the Red Wings were interested in was Cozens who makes sense for them and would be the second center that they’ve been looking for and would be nice on that line playing with Alex DeBrincat and Patrick Kane. With the Red Wings’ recent run and being a playoff spot look for them to add as they look to return to the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Opinion: Stars’ Mikko Rantanen Returns to Form At the Right Time

It was clear that Mikko Rantanen was not exactly about being traded by the Colorado Avalanche, the only NHL club he had ever known. It was in Colorado where he spent close to 11 seasons, won a Stanley Cup in 2022, had 681 points (287 goals and 394 assists), and made lifelong friends. That is […]

Edmonton Oilers Playoff Thoughts: Round 2, Game 2

It takes four wins to advance, but the Edmonton Oilers historically lose almost every Game 1. In their last 15 rounds, including Tuesday night, they’ve won only four series openers. Even in 2006, they only won one Game 1. If you include that Playoff run, just for laughs, the record is 5 Game 1 wins […]
