Last Game:
The Leafs had yet another poor game for the most part, losing to the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night after the Red Wings spent the whole day traveling. This marks three losses in a row for the Leafs, the latest two being regulation losses, and the Leafs will need to stop the bleeding soon, especially with a difficult schedule ahead.
Projected Lines:
Leafs to Keep an Eye on:
- Matthew Knies is back in the top six after spending the last game on the fourth line. Last game may have been an outlier as many of the lines were majorly shifted, but Knies is a rookie and seems to be going through some of the lulls that can be expected in a rookie campaign. He will be playing with Tavares and Nylander tonight and will look to compete hard to create results.
- Mitch Marner has been a recipient of criticism lately, and part of that is due to some mistakes he’s been making and the fact that he’s looked a bit less dominant. With that said, Marner is still producing at over a point per game. The core four forwards have been quiet the past two games and will look to help produce, and that includes Marner.
- Martin Jones is back in the net after getting Sunday off. It’s a busy stretch of hockey leading up to the break for the Leafs, and with Joseph Woll, not near return, the Leafs will still be relying on Jones. Jones has helped to steady the ship in Woll’s absence and will look to remain calm and continue making saves to help give the Leafs a chance at snapping their losing streak and the Oilers winning streak.
