Game Preview: Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Seattle Kraken | 01/21/2024

Seattle, WA – The Toronto Maple Leafs made their way to Seattle after a game last night in Vancouver. It looks as if Seattle will have multiple players out tonight with injuries and a flu bug that has seemed to hit the team.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Last Meeting:

The Leafs and Kraken have only faced each other five times before, but the Leafs have won four out of those five games. The last of which was November 30th of this past year, where the Leafs came out on top 4-3 in a shootout win. The Kraken are in a down year this year, but as of late, have been picking up some momentum and will look to continue that tonight.

LEAFS QUICK LOOK (22-14-8)

Last Game:

The Leafs have been struggling as of late, and last night against the Canucks was no different. The Canucks found themselves up 3-0 in the first period, and the Leafs made a second-period comeback but ultimately ended up falling to the Canucks 6-4. There were some defensive mistakes, and also some mistakes in net that led to this game being a loss.

Leafs to Keep an Eye on:

  • Ilya Samsonov is expected to get the start tonight, as it’s the second half of a back-to-back, and Jones didn’t post great numbers last night. Samsonov was put on waivers and had a week away from the team, but since has joined the team and played a game last week. He looked much better and made some key stops. It seems as if most of the battle with Samsonov is in his head, so hopefully, he can overcome that tonight should he get the start.
  • John Tavares has found himself in a slump as of late, and it matches his longest slump, which was in his rookie season. Tavares is surely aware that he’s in a slump, but he’s still battling hard. Tavares will look to rebound tonight and find himself on the board.
  • Noah Gregor has played almost every game this season after starting training camp on a tryout. Gregor, for the most part, has been pretty good, using his speed to his advantage, but he needs to ensure he keeps up his play off of the puck. With Reaves healthy and ready to go, it will be up to the depth forwards to not give any reason for them to be taken out of the lineup, and that includes Gregor.
