On Monday Morning, Gigi Marvin announced her retirement on Instagram and Twitter. The 37-year-old Forward was heading into the offseason as a free agent. It was a little suspected that it was time for Marvin to hang up the skates. Early this morning, she made the announcement

Marvin has been playing hockey in Boston since 2012. She began her career with the Boston Blades in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL). She later played for the PHF Boston Pride until the league folded and the PWHL was formed. Marvin’s professional playing career in Boston has been put to an end after 11 years in the city. She is a Gold medalist and is one of few trailblazers to say goodbye to the sport this offseason.

Here are Marvin’s stats throughout her career (regular season):

-Minnesota Whitecaps 2010-11: 17 games played, 27 goals, and 14 assists.

-Boston Blades 2011-12: 27 games played, 11 goals, and 21 assists.

-Boston Blades 2012-13: 15 games played, 2 goals, and 3 assists.

-Boston Pride 2015-16: 16 games played, 5 goals, and 9 assists.

-Boston Pride 2016-17: 16 games played, 4 goals, and 10 assists.

-Boston Pride 2018-19: 15 games played, 10 goals, and 6 assists.

-PWHL Boston 2023-24: 24 games played, 1 goal, and 3 assists.

Marvin and her legacy

Marvin had an amazing start to her career on the stats sheet. As the years went by her numbers went down but her impact did not. She was a great mentor and a veteran in the locker room. The Boston Fleet roster will be very different without her. Best of luck in retirement, Gigi Marvin!
