Golden Graveyard Gossip Part 1: Golden Ghosts vs Swamp Rabbits

It’s Vegas…but in Savannah???

Tonight was the first night that the Savannah Ghost Pirates transformed into the Golden Ghosts in honor of their NHL affiliate, the Vegas Golden Knights – the current Stanley Cup Champions. They had a whole new logo with a ghost that was gold in color and had on a knight helmet that was also gold. They also changed their intro from having a green color scheme to it being golden, as well as using the song intro that the Golden Knights use. A lot of the graphics on the big screens were somehow involving casinos, the Stanley Cup, or anything gold. One big surprise to the city of Savannah for this event was that the VGK mascot, Chance the Gila Monster, was present at the game along with Davy.

Flat First Period:

The first period finished scoreless. There was one single power play, and it was given to Greenville. However, it was not entirely uneventful as 17:48 into the game, Carter Long and J.D. Greenway dropped the gloves and had a pretty long-lasting fight.

Scoring in the Second and Third Periods:

Just as the period was a bit halfway from being over, the Swamp Rabbits struck first at 11:58. Lordanthony Grissom scored for them off of Jake Smith and Nikita Pavlychev. Not to worry, as they didn’t have the lead for long as Alex Gilmour got a goal for Savannah at 17:27 into the second on assists from Matthew Boudens and Logan Drevitch.

Similar to the second period, the last period in regulation consisted of one goal from each team, causing the game to go into overtime. At 3:58, Alex Gilmour lit the lamp for Savannah for the second time of the night, this time on assists from Simon Pinard and Joe Fleming. Greenville’s goal came from Anthony Beauchamp later in the period, assisted by Max Martin and Tyler Inamoto. There were no penalties called on either team, but the game did go into an additional period.

Out of this World Overtime:

The overtime period resulted in no change in score, so it went into a shootout as the Savannah Ghost Pirates lost in a three-round shootout.

Golden Ghosts:

  1. Brent Pederson: no goal
  2. Ross Armour: goal
  3. Alex Gilmour: goal

Swamp Rabbits:

  1. Jake Smith: goal
  2. Carter Souch: goal
  3. Brannon McManus: goal

The Golden Ghosts will continue this series tomorrow and Saturday.
