On Sunday morning, the Vegas Golden Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmon announced they acquired forward Ivan Barbashev from the St. Louis Blues.
To acquire Barbashev, Vegas traded away 2021 first-round draft choice Zach Dean.
A pending unrestricted free agent, the 27-year-old Barbashev has ten goals and 19 assists for 29 points in 59 games this season. Last year in the 2021/22 season with the Blues, he recorded a career-high 60 points (26 G, 34 A) in 81 games.
St.Louis drafted Barbashev in the second round (33rd overall) in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. He has played seven seasons in the NHL, all with the St. Louis Blues. In 410 career games, he has 178 points (78 G, 100 A).
Barbashev is in the final year of a two-year deal with an AAV of $2.25 million. He becomes an unrestricted free agent following the 2022/22 season.
Barbashev, 27, comes to Vegas with some Stanley Cup playoff experience. He appeared in 50 postseason games throughout his career with St.Louis and won the 2019 Stanley Cup with the Blues. In the 2019 Stanley Cup winning run with St.Louis, he led all skaters with 87 hits in 25 games while adding three goals and three assists, helping St.Louis beat the Boston Bruins in seven games in the 2019 Stanley Cup Final.
Zach Dean was selected with the 30th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft by the Golden Knights. The 20-year-old has scored 24 goals and added 25 assists for 49 points with the Gatineau Olympiques in the QMJHL and had three points in seven games for Canada at the 2023 World Junior Championship.
