The twin teams, the Jacksonville Icemen and the Savannah Ghost Pirates faced off in Savannah this evening. The last time these teams faced each other, multiple line brawls ended the game. Tonight’s game ended in a similar fashion, with a few mini-quarrels at the end of the third period. The Icemen had the lead for the entire game, having a two-goal lead for a good portion of the game. Despite a valiant comeback, the Ghost Pirates fell to Jacksonville 4-3. The Icemen had a dominant first period as they scored three goals all within less than eight minutes. They got their last goal in the second period, while the Savannah team got one goal per period.
Jacksonville’s Craig Martin was the first to score, landing his goal at 2:45 into the first. Reece Harsch was the next to score, and his goal started a game of tag with goal scoring. His shot hit the net at 7:03. Roughly 30 seconds after, Brent Pederson got Savannah on the board with a strong shot. To end the back-and-forth goals, Damien Giroux got the Icemen their third goal at 8:12 in the game. The rest of the period had no more goals scored, but the tension between the teams was still building as they had unfinished business from the week prior. Savannah’s second period goal was scored by the previous Stingray player, Bear Hughes, showing that his team was still in the game and wouldn’t give up. Once again, the only other occurrences of the period were brief moments of aggression and tension. Lastly, Logan Drevitch brought the team up to just one goal short of a tied score at 18:07 into the final period. The score rested with an Icemen win 4-3.
The Ghost Pirates are a team that have come so far since they have become a franchise, and they continue to grow more and more with each game played. They next play on Friday at home against the Gladiators.
