Grizzlies Add Aragon, Face Growlers

Tonight the Utah Grizzlies host the Newfoundland Growlers for the first game of a 3-game series. This will be the fourth meeting between the two squads as the teams played their first ever series against each other back in 2019, as the Growlers won the first game, as Joseph Duszak won the game in overtime. The Grizzlies would then take the next two games out scoring the Growlers 7-2, which included a December 13th shutout by Martin Ouellette.

The Grizzlies come into the series recently signing forward Aaron Aragon, who is playing his second year of professional hockey. Aragon started the season with the Grizzlies’ heavyweight rival in the Idaho Steelheads. In just four games with Idaho, Aragon tallied five points (2G,3A). The 5’9” winger played his college days from 2018-2022 with the University Of New England, playing 75 games, scoring 23 goals while adding 16 assists, which was good for 39 points.

Who are the players to keep an eye on this series

For the Growlers, someone to watch out for is Jackson Berezowski, who has 19 points with a +12 rating in 14 games this season. Despite not having a good start to the season, watch out for ECHL fan favorite Todd Skirving, who only has three points and a -9 rating to start the year.

For the Grizzlies, it’s been a slow start to the season in games played, as they only have 10 games so far, only having three road games. Fan Favorites Jordan Martel and Brandon Cutler started out well with Martel having 8 points (3G,5A) and Cutler having 7 points (4G,3A).

The Grizzlies and the Growlers play at 7:10pm MST tonight, Friday and Saturday Night in front of what should be a rowdy and loud Maverik Center crowd.
