The Winnipeg Jets have signed winger Gustav Nyquist to a one-year deal worth an annual average value of $3,250,000.
Nyquist is a player the Jets had previously expressed interest in the 14-year NHL veteran, given his consistency throughout his entire career.
The 35-year-old spent the 2024-25 season split between the Nashville Predators and the Minnesota Wild, posting 28 points (11G, 17A) in 79 games played.
Originally drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the fourth round (121st overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Nyquist has posted 531 points (209G, 322A) in 863 career NHL games. He’s split his time in the NHL between Detroit, San Jose, Columbus, Minnesota, Nashville and now Winnipeg.
His career high comes in the 2023-24 season with the Nashville Predators, posting 75 points (23G, 52A), and before that, his career high was 54 points (27G, 37A) in 82 games with the Detroit Red Wings.
Nyquist’s early career was split between the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League and the Detroit Red Wings of the AHL. He won the 2013 Calder Cup with Grand Rapids, his only professional hockey trophy win to date.
Internationally, Nyquist has represented Sweden multiple times. Most recently, he represented Sweden at the Four Nations Faceoff. He’s won a gold medal at the 2018 World Championship and a silver medal at the 2014 Olympic Games.
The Halmstad, Sweden-born winger brings a lot of potential to be a good fit in the Jets’ middle-six. Given his experience with plenty of teams in the NHL, he will be a valuable piece to the Jets’ lineup, even if it’s short-term.
