Harley to Duchene: Stars Beat Canucks 4-3 in Overtime

The Dallas Stars concluded the brief, two-game homestand with a home game against the Vancouver Canucks. The Stars beat the Canucks 4-3 in overtime at the American Airlines Center on Thursday night. Dallas improved to 19-8-4, while Vancouver fell to 22-9-3.

The Canucks drew first blood on the road, which likely disappointed most if not all, Stars fans. Dakota Joshua, a former St. Louis Blues forward, collected a wrist shot set up by Conor Garland and fired it into the Stars’ net for an early 1-0 lead at 2:51 of the opening period. Teddy Blueger got the other assist on Joshua’s eighth goal of the season.

The Stars tied the game at one apiece past the 10-minute mark of the opening period. Tyler Seguin skated past Ian Cole and pulled off a poke shot to tie the game, 1-1, at 10:51. Matt Duchene and Miro Heiskanen got the assists on Seguin’s 10th goal of the season.

The game was tied 1-1 at the end of the first period. Dallas outshot Vancouver 16-6 after 20 minutes. The Stars struck first to open the second period. Roope Hintz gave the Stars their first lead of the game, 2-1, at 7:51. Hintz fired a wrist shot past Thatcher Demko’s five-hole for his 11th goal of the season, which was assisted by Jason Robertson and Joe Pavelski.

The Canucks tied the game at two apiece around two and a half minutes after the 10-minute mark. Brock Boeser ripped a wrist shot past Scott Wedgewood to tie the game, 2-2, at 12:26. J.T. Miller and Quinn Hughes got the assists on Boeser’s 24th goal of the season.

The game was tied 2-2 at the end of the second period. Dallas outshot Vancouver 25-11 after 40 minutes. The Canucks regained the lead late in the third period. Conor Garland tapped in a snap shot to give the Canucks a 3-2 lead at 15:04. Dakota Joshua and Teddy Blueger got the assists on Garland’s third goal of the season.

The home crowd rocked out when Thomas Harley answered with a game-tying goal at 16:30 of the third period. Harley’s goal was assisted by Jason Robertson and Miro Heiskanen.

The game was tied at three apiece at the end of regulation and went into overtime. Dallas outshot Vancouver 34-19 after a full 60 minutes. Matt Duchene sealed the scoring with a snap shot off a pass from Thomas Harley for a game-winning goal at 4:49 of overtime. Duchene’s game-winner was assisted by Thomas Harley and Wyatt Johnston. The Stars beat the Canucks 4-3 in overtime. Dallas outshot Vancouver 36-20 after nearly 65 minutes.

In Case You Missed It
As of December 18, Thomas Harley is the only defenseman in the NHL to have a power play goal, a shorthanded goal, and an overtime goal this season. His eight total goals are just one off the league lead.
