As part of the madness that was the 2025 National Hockey League Trade Deadline, the Utah Hockey Club (formerly the Arizona Coyotes – that’s handy for later) and the Chicago Blackhawks made a minor swap.

After moving on from Petr Mrazek in a move to the Detroit Red Wings, the Blackhawks went off the board when moving their 2026 fifth round draft pick, and taking on Aku Räty (Ah-koo Rah-too), the rights to Victor Söderstrom and the contract of Shea Weber.

The Coyotes (see…) acquired the contract of Weber and a fifth round pick in 2023 from the Vegas Golden Knights in a swap for Dysin Mayo.

Weber hasn’t played an NHL game since 2021, and his contract is paramount in helping the Chicago Blackhawks reach the salary floor for next season.

Räty has been on the Tucson Roadrunners for the last two seasons. In 105 games with the Roadrunners, he has 63 points with 19 goals and 44 assists.

He is expected to report to the minor leagues to join the Rockford Icehogs.

Söderstrom has played in 49 career NHL games, with nine points, all assists. He has spent time in Tucson as well. In 138 games, the six-foot Swede has accrued 16 goals with 96 assists for a total of 112 points. Currently, he’s in the Swedish Hockey League with Brynäs IF. In 47 games, he has 36 points, with nine goals and 27 assists.
