The Boston Bruins got off to a scorching start to the season with a 5-2 barn burner on the road in Washington. The Bruins got off to a 3-0 lead early before putting it away in the third period. A lot of their success was due to the Bruins’ new all-Czech line of Pavel Zacha, David Krejci, and David Pastrnak.
Already down three players to start the season, the Bruins lost another member of their team to injury during the opener. DeBrusk left after a hit near the end of the second period and did not return to the bench for the third. The Bruins later announced that the forward would not return to the game with an upper-body injury.
The Bruins had their first practice since Wednesday’s game this morning, and Jake DeBrusk was not in attendance. After the morning skate, head coach Jim Montgomery reported on DeBrusk’s injury status. As per Joe Haggerty of Boston Hockey Now:
‘Jake DeBrusk out with an upper-body injury for tomorrow’s game. Trent Frederic will draw in for the Bruins”
While DeBrusk is scratched for tomorrow’s game, it does seem like he could be back sooner than later, as the injury isn’t as bad as they initially feared.
While DeBrusk is out recovering from his wrist injury, Craig Smith will slide up to the top line to play alongside Patrice Bergeron and Taylor Hall. This allows Trent Frederic to get the start on the third-line wing and impress Montgomery after a lackluster preseason. Frederic was a healthy scratch in game one.
