The St. Louis Blues have been shopping center Jordan Kyrou off and on for a couple of seasons. However, with a no-trade clause that kicked in on July 1, it might be harder to move the productive forward. Regardless, the Blues seem to be motivated to move that contract, according to TSN’s Frank Seravalli.
Kyrou has averaged 35 goals and 71 points over the last three seasons. It is uncommon for teams to trade 27-year-old centers who are offensively talented, but in this case, St. Louis wants to trade away the $8.125 million salary cap hit through 2030-31 that Kyrou carries with a base salary in 2025-26 of $10.5 million. There are several teams interested in Kyrou and his cap number because of a rising salary cap in the coming years. One team that should be knocking on the Blues’ front office door is the Boston Bruins.
With just around $3 million in cap space after many offseason transactions, the Bruins would have to move a contract or two off the roster to make the money work. Pavel Zacha (2 yrs/$4.75) and Casey Mittelstadt (2 yrs/$5.75) would be two candidates in trade talks with St. Louis, along with young players Matt Poitras and Mason Lohrei. The deal would be contingent on Kyrou waiving his no-trade clause to go to Boston, but it is worth a conversation at least, as the Bruins have a void at first-line center.
As the new season approaches, keep an eye on Jordan Kyrou moving on to another city. If Boston is that city, it would be a huge pickup in their current retool.
