Boston Bruins fans have called out Jake DeBrusk for multiple reasons, and he is proving the haters wrong once again.
The Bruins winger, who is having a breakout season, is nearing a return from what was reported to be a broken fibula. DeBrusk suffered the injury in the Winter Classic and is now slated to return before the All-Star break.
“I think he starts skating [Monday],” Boston head coach Jim Montgomery said. “He has to check boxes to come back, so we don’t have a timeline right now. We’d like him to be back before the All-Star break, but we’re not gonna push that with that break coming.”
DeBrusk’s toughness has been called out sometimes by fans (fairly or not). He is once again proving his doubters wrong.
The 26-year-old scored 16 goals, and 14 assists in 36 games played this season. He was one of the Bruins top scorers prior to his injury, and even after missing some time, he is still 6th in points among his fellow B’s.
If he reaches 20 goals, it will be the third time he has done so in his career. Even with his time off due to injury, DeBrusk can have a career season. To do so, he would need to eclipse 27 goals, 27 assists, and 43 points.
Luckily the Bruins are in a good spot. Boston is 8-1 since DeBrusk was sidelined. They are playing so well that they could easily ease the winger into the lineup. If they wanted to, they could hold DeBrusk out until past the All-Star break to ensure that his recovery is even more effective and that he is a bit fresher entering the playoffs.
DeBrusk has looked like a completely different player under Montgomery’s leadership. When he does return, he will be yet another scorer that Boston can rely on. With him slated to start skating soon, it won’t be long until he returns to the lineup.
