Previous Game Recap & Statistics

The Winnipeg Jets have suffered yet another heartbreaking defeat. This time, they lost to the New York Rangers. Late in the first period, Artemi Panarin would score to put the Rangers up by one goal, Jets forward David Gustafsson would not be too far behind him, scoring a goal to end the period tied at one goal each. The second period was a slugfest, but neither team could get a shot off to attempt to put the game in their favor. The third period saw Nikolaj Ehlers record his 400th career point with the Winnipeg Jets. Chris Kreider would spoil the party by scoring a powerplay goal to tie the game at two goals each. Mika Zibanejad would score in the dying seconds of overtime to secure the victory for the Rangers to improve the Rangers season so far.

Winnipeg went 0/3 on the powerplay this game. They’ve suffered the consequences of not making changes to the powerplay, and it has affected each game they’ve played. The Jets need to make changes to the powerplay, or else it could start to cost them some crucial games going forward.

Another note, of the nine games the Jets have played so far, Hellebuyck has started seven, and he’s expected to start against Vegas tonight. There have been games where the Jets should have played Brossoit and rested Hellebuyck, especially if they have belief in this team to make a strong case for a playoff push.

Winnipeg Jets Notes & Projected Lineup

Interim head coach Scott Arniel has yet to make any significant lineup changes. This will be interesting to watch versus Vegas tonight, especially when you consider the fact that Winnipeg hasn’t made many lineup changes throughout the entire season.

Kyle Connor – Mark Scheifele – Alex Iafallo
Cole Perfetti – Vladislav Namestnikov – Nikolaj Ehlers
Nino Niederreiter – Adam Lowry – Mason Appleton
Morgan Barron – Rasmus Kupari – David Gustafsson
Josh Morrissey – Dylan DeMelo
Brendan Dillon – Neal Pionk
Dylan Samberg – Nate Schmidt
Connor Hellebuyck & Laurent Brossoit

Key Things To Look For In Tonight’s Game

There are two things to look for in tonight’s game versus Vegas. The first is how Scott Arniel adapts to the pace that Vegas plays by moving around players in specific lines, and the second is how Arniel deploys his special units, given the opportunities they will have tonight against Vegas.

The biggest issue for the Winnipeg Jets is not the players they play on the powerplay but how they choose to play them on the powerplay. Scheifele has always been plastered up against the wall whenever the Jets hit the powerplay this year. This formation hasn’t worked much this year. The Winnipeg Jets will continue to jam this square into a circle until it starts to work, and they should make the change before this becomes more of an issue.
