Previous Game Recap & Statistics

The Winnipeg Jets kicked off their five-game homestand on Thursday, November 9, with a 6-3 win over the Nashville Predators. However, it wasn’t an easy win by any means. The first period saw the building nearly boil over. Mason Appleton opened the scoring to put the Jets up 1-0, but Filip Forsberg wasn’t too far behind him, scoring the tying goal. Not too long after Forsberg’s goal, Jeremy Lauzon and Adam Lowry would have a scrap that saw Lowry get the better of Lauzon. About a minute after Lowry was out of the bog after his tilt with Lauzon, Lowry found himself back in the penalty box for another fight with Cole Smith. Lauzon received five minutes for fighting, and Lowry doubled up on five-minute majors for fighting, while Cole Smith got two for instigating, five for fighting, and a 10-minute misconduct.

While the place was unhinged after Lowry’s back-to-back fights, the second period gave the fans in attendance so much more to look forward to. Kyle Connor would score two goals in just two minutes and a bit apart, while Cole Perfetti followed it up with a power-play goal for the Jets, putting the team up 4-1. Filip Forsberg attempted to spoil the Jets parade by scoring his second of the game, but this proved to be ineffective as the period closed with a score of 4-2.

Brendan Dillon opened the scoring in the third period to put the Jets up 5-2, while Philip Tomasino brought the Predators back to within two goals. Kyle Connor eventually scored another goal to get a hat trick on the game and secure the Jets 6-3 victory over Nashville.

Laurent Brossoit found his first victory of the season, facing 23 shots and stopping 20. Brossoit now sits with three games started with a record of one win, loss, and an overtime loss.

Preview of Winnipeg Jets vs Dallas Stars

In the Stars and Jets’ five previous meetings, Dallas has a slight edge over Winnipeg, up three wins to two. The keynote is that each meeting was a close meeting with two games going into overtime; Dallas and Winnipeg are tied for overtime wins in the previous five meetings.

Key Things To Look For In Tonight’s Game

The Jets are getting red hot. The Winnipeg Jets are starting to heat up after their slow start to the season, where they struggled to stay around the 0.500 mark. While it is a collective effort, interim head coach Scott Arniel has made a great decision by making minor tweaks to the lineup. This could become the key to a long winning streak for the Jets and could serve as a massive advantage as they look to overtake control of the central division.

Perfetti should be on the first line. Don’t get me wrong, Alex Iafallo is working wonderfully with Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele. It’s just a matter of consistently getting production out of all four lines. Cole Perfetti has outworked many of his expectations up until now, and he’s continuing to show that he might be the answer we currently need to a few problems.

Arniel’s line deployment. Interim head coach Scott Arniel has mastered the art of deploying his lineup. The Winnipeg Jets dominated every aspect of the game versus Nashville. Winnipeg outshot Nashville 37-23 and went 5/5 on the penalty kill. Scott Arniel also masterfully put his best defensive lines out on Nashville’s top offensive threats, allowing for minimal high-danger changes on Brossoit throughout the game. If the Winnipeg Jets can continue this system in the long run, this might be one of their biggest advantages and weaknesses as the season progresses.
