Jim Montgomery Captures Jack Adams Award

Jim Montgomery had a truly magnificent season returning as an NHL head coach. 65 wins and 135 points with the Boston Bruins, Montgomery’s first season with the Bruins was one to remember and a record that may never be challenged again.

After receiving the Jack Adams Award as the NHL Coach of the Year, Jim Montgomery delivered an emotional and powerful speech.

“Three and a half years ago, the Dallas Stars terminated my contract because of my struggles with alcohol, and I had to change my actions and behaviors. For those who struggle out there, you can change. You can affect change within yourself. It doesn’t happen alone. You need a team. You need a community.”

Montgomery also thanked those who supported him at a low point in his career. Montgomery’s rise back as a strong NHL caliber coach is a feel-good story that his career didn’t end three and a half years ago. Boston is touted for continued success with Jim Montgomery as their head coach for the foreseeable future.

New Jersey Devils coach Lindy Ruff and Seattle Kraken coach Dave Hakstol were the other two nominees for the Jack Adams Award.
