Joey Daccord, also known as The Mayor to Kraken fans signed a five-year, $25 million extension on Wednesday morning. The extension lines up with the long-term deals signed in the offseason from Matty Beniers, Adam Larsson, Brandon Montour and Chandler Stephenson.
Daccord played in 50 games for the Seattle Kraken during the 2023-24 season, holding a 19-18-11 record and 2.46 GAA and .916 SV%, making him one of the best goaltenders in the league that played in 50 or more games. His save percentage was in the top seven in the league, tied with Jeremy Swayman. Last season Daccord had top-three numbers in December and January, including the first shutout in Winter Classic history, winning eight straight games as part of the Kraken’s 13-game point streak and a three-game scoreless stretch that lasted 155 minutes.
Prior to the 2023-24 season, Daccord dressed for just 10 Kraken games since being picked up in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft. He spent the bulk of his first two seasons in the organization with AHL affiliates the Charlotte Checkers (2021-22) and the Coachella Valley Firebirds (2022-23.) While with the Firebirds, Daccord held a 26-8-3 record with a 2.38 GAA and a .918 SV% during the regular season and a 2.22 GAA and a 9.26 SV% during the Firebirds’ playoff run.
Joey Daccord stepped into a pretty big role while Philipp Grubbier was dealing with a lower-body injury sustained on December 9, 2023, and started in nine of the Kraken’s next 10 games, going 6-1-2 with a 1.43 GAA, .953%, and his first two NHL shutouts.
