Jordan Binnington Linked to Three Teams

Jordan Binnington Linked to Three Teams

The Trade Deadline is next Friday, and the rumors will continue to swirl. One name that has popped up is Jordan Binnington from the St. Louis Blues. The Blues are still hanging around in the Western Conference playoff race as they sit five points back entering tonight. St. Louis has liked what they’ve seen out Joel Hofer this season. In 21 games is 10-7-2 with a 2.88 goals-against average and a .903 save percentage. With Hofer playing well it’s open the conversation on Binnington.

Another thing that made Binnington a name to watch was his success in the Four Nations Face-Off. He made four starts for Canada going 3-1-0 with a 2.37 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage. Due to that and his success in big games teams will now be interested. Three teams have been floated around. The Edmonton Oilers, the Carolina Hurricanes, and the Detroit Red Wings.

Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers were linked to John Gibson. The question was would he be the starter or would it be shared with Stuart Skinner. If the Oilers were to acquire Binnington that would be their true number, one. It’s no secret the Oilers are loaded with talent. The one thing yet to get them over the hump was a goalie. They did go to game seven last season and that was in part to the play of Skinner. Who forced a game seven winning games four, five, and six. Binnington has played in big games such as game seven.

Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes have Pyotr Kochetkov and Frederik Andersen but have also used Spencer Martin, Dustin Tokarski, and Yaniv Perets at points this season. Andersen does have an injury history and Kochetkov is young at only 25 years old. With the moves Carolina has made in adding Taylor Hall and Mikko Rantanen to this point adding a proven goalie could be what helps them compete with the Washington Capitals, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Florida Panthers in a seven-game series. Adding someone like Binnington would be a huge piece and would put them in the conversation for the Stanley Cup this season.

Detroit Red Wings

The Red Wings will likely be looking to add a center with Andrew Copp done for the season. They’ve used Cam Talbot, Alex Lyon, Ville Husso, and Sebastian Cossa at some point this season. Husso is now in Anaheim following a trade on Monday. Talbot has taken over as the starter with Lyon being the backup. They’ve been a fine duo but adding someone like Binnington with the Red Wings’ recent play could be a boost to a team looking to return to the playoffs and get their young pieces playoff experience.

The Red Wings have a history of making trades with the Blues in recent years, acquiring Ville Husso, Jake Walman, Oskar Sundqvist, Robby Fabbri, and trading Jakub Vrana, or Nick Leddy. The Blues and Red Wings have an established trade relationship between the two. Another name that could be included is Brayden Schenn.
