Defenseman Justin Holl finally has a new landing place – Detroit. The Detroit Red Wings announced on the first day of the 2023 NHL Free Agency that they had agreed to terms on a three-year deal with the 31-year-old defenseman. It carries an average annual value of $3.4 million, stacking up to a $10.2 million total value. Holl joins the team after spending the previous six seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, where he played in 285 games. Originally drafted in the second round of the 2010 NHL Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks, Holl joined the Maple Leafs as a free agent in 2016. He picked up 82 points (11g, 71a) over the course of six seasons, registering 18 points on the season (2g, 16a) through 80 games played last year.

Justin Holl Stats

Standing at 6’4”, Holl is a sizeable defenseman with solid penalty-killing skills. He joins a Red Wings team in the midst of a rebuilding period and will join on the Wings’ blueline by players such as Moritz Seider and Ben Chiarot. Notably, Holl fills a gap the Red Wings needed to be plugged, providing some right-handed shot depth on defense.
