Jacob Nordqvist, a 26-year-old Swedish defenseman for the Kalamazoo Wings, is set to join the Herning Blue Fox in Denmark. In the 2023-2024 season, he recorded 10 points, including nine assists and a goal in 51 games, and added one assist in three Kelly Cup Playoff games, marking his debut professional hockey season. Prior to this, he played in junior leagues in his home country, Sweden, before moving to the United States to play in the USHL with the Fargo Force and the Madison Capitals. He then attended Lake Superior State University in Sault St. Marie, Michigan, in the Upper Peninsula, where he excelled as a defenseman for four years and served as the Alternate Captain in his final season. Following this, he transferred to Quinnipiac University, contributing to their NCCA Championship victory in 2023 and posting 11 points, all coming as assists in his outstanding final year of eligibility.
After signing with the Kalamazoo Wings in September 2023, he has decided to pursue his career in Denmark with the Herning Blue Fox. Fans wish him the best of luck and hope to see him return to the United States with an even stronger game in the near future. The right-handed defenseman displays great potential, but he needs to further develop his skills on the defensive end to make a significant impact in professional hockey. Nordqvist is the third player to head overseas from Kalamazoo and the second player this month after Erik Bradford announced he was going overseas earlier this month.
