The Montreal Canadiens have announced that Kirby Dach will miss the rest of the 2024-25 season after undergoing season-ending knee surgery; he’s expected to return for the beginning of next season. In 57 games this season with the Canadiens, Dach put up 10 goals and 12 assists for 22 points. This is the second straight season that the 24-year-old forward has had his season ended due to an injury after he tore his ACL and MCL in the second game of the 2023-24 season.
This is a tough blow to the Canadiens, who traded for Kirby Dach for the 13th and 66th picks in the 2022 NHL Draft, as Dach has played just 117 games for the Canadiens in his three years while putting up 24 goals and 38 assists for 62 points. Prior to coming to Montreal, Dach spent three years with the Chicago Blackhawks, where he had 19 goals and 40 assists for 59 points in 159 games. Heading into next season, Dach will not only be looking to rebound from an injury-rittled last two seasons but will also be in a contract year.
With Dach done for the season, the Canadiens will have some decisions to make at the deadline if they want to out and get another middle-six forward. There have been rumours around the Canadiens looking to move Jake Evans and Joel Armia, but now with the injury to Dach, it will be interesting to see if the Canadiens decide to keep both guys, being just five points out of the second wild card spot.
