Los Angeles Kings captain and longtime forward Anze Kopitar has won the Lady Byng Trophy for the second time in his career. The Lady Byng Trophy is awarded to the player who has exhibited the best sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct and holds their play to a high standard.

Kopitar, who turns 36 in August, has one year left on his eight-year contract worth $10 million annually. Kopitar’s 2022-23 campaign saw a steady production of 28 goals and 46 assists for 74 points in 82 games. Kopitar only received four penalty minutes in all 82 games this season, helping him secure the Lady Byng Trophy.

Anze Kopitar won the Lady Byng Trophy over New Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes and Tampa Bay Lightning forward Brayden Point. Kopitar’s Lady Byng Trophy win is his second career Lady Byng and first since 2016, it’s another piece of hardware to his trophy case.

The Lady Byng Trophy is awarded to the player that exhibits the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct and plays to a high standard which is then voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association.
