Big Win

Detroit saw Petr Mrazek get the start in goal. It was his first start in a winged wheel sweater since February 18, 2018. The Red Wings acquired Mrazek at the trade deadline. He turned aside 23 of the 26 shots he faced. It was his first win since February 7th when the Blackhawks beat the Nashville Predators 6-2.

Patrick Kane finished the night with five points on two goals and three assists. Kane wasn’t the only Red Wing to score two goals, as Marco Kasper added two of his own. The rest of the Detroit goals came from Alex DeBrincat, Vladimir Tarasenko, and Moritz Seider. Buffalo had goals from Zach Benson, Tage Thompson, and Josh Norris. Norris’ goal was his first as a Sabre. The game was chippy but that’s expected between these two teams with Detroit’s recent struggles and Buffalo having a rough season.

Scoring

Buffalo jumped out to a 1-0 lead behind a Thompson goal. Detroit tied things up when Marco Kasper scored his 11th of the season. Detroit would get goals from DeBrincat and Kane to make it 3-1. Buffalo made it a one-goal game as Norris scored.

The game was 3-2 in the second period. Tarasenko scored his ninth of the year to make it 4-2 Detroit. Buffalo got a goal from Benson to make it 4-3 Red Wings entering the final 20 minutes

The last period was all Detroit as they scored three goals with Kane and Kasper adding their second of the game and Seider scored with 5.5 minutes left.
