Tampa Bay General Manager Julien Brisebois announced today that the team had agreed to terms with veteran forward Conor Sheary. The Lightning locked the Winchester, Massaschuttes native up to a three-year, $6 million deal carrying an AAV of $2 million. The addition of Sheary to the Lightning roster helps provide the team with some scoring depth in the middle of their line-up. An undrafted player, Sheary spent his first three years in the NHL with the Pittsburgh Penguins after signing a contract as a free agent in 2015. During his time in Pittsburgh, Sheary won back-to-back Stanley Cups (2016 & 2017) and went on the score the overtime winner in game two of the 2016 Stanley Cup Finals.
Amassing 531 games of NHL experience over nine seasons, he spent the last three years playing a journeyman-type role throughout the Washington Capitals lineup. Sheary played in all 82 games last season for Washington, averaging 15:46 of ice time. In those 82 games for the Caps, he produced 37 points, including 15 goals and 22 assists. Over the course of his career, the veteran winger has appeared in 72 playoff games, collecting 23 points (7g, 16a). Prior to his time with the Capitals, Conor Sheary spent two years in Buffalo with the Sabres.
