The Montreal Canadiens have traded defenseman Logan Mailloux to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for forward Zachary Bolduc.
This trade comes after Montreal’s acquisition of Noah Dobson, making it harder for Mailloux to find a spot in Montreal’s defensive corps. The trade, which is purely a depth transaction with high upside for both teams, also fits the needs of the teams acquiring their respective player.
Mailloux, 22, has posted five points (2G, 3A) in eight career NHL games. The 31st overall draft selection by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft has spent the majority of the past two seasons with the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League.
Before Mailloux got his start with the Canadiens, he played parts of three seasons, including one full season, in the Ontario Hockey League with the London Knights. The 6-foot-3 right-shot defender from Belle River, Ontario, will look to make the most of a fresh start with the St. Louis Blues.
Bolduc, 22, has significantly more NHL experience than Mailloux, but equal, if not greater, upside to his game. The 17th overall draft selection by the St. Louis Blues in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft showed tons of promise with a 36-point (19G, 17A) season in 2024-25. He’s notched 45 points (24G, 21A) in 97 games to date and will be an excellent fit in the Canadiens’ middle-six.
After the Four Nations faceoff, Bolduc scored 13 goals in 24 games to close out the season. Should his scoring ways elevate to a similar level, Montreal could have a potential first or second-line talent.
Before Bolduc got his start with the Blues, he played four full seasons in the QMJHL, splitting his time in junior playing two seasons with Rimouski Oceanic and his final two seasons with the Quebec Remparts. Bolduc notably contributed heavily to the Remparts’ 2023 QMJHL and Memorial Cup Championship runs.
