After an offseason of change, Logan Thompson is finding success with his new club. After being traded from the Vegas Golden Knights to the Washington Capitals for two third-round picks, Thompson has played in 27 games for the Capitals this season with a 22-2-3 record. Thompson currently touts a 2.09 GAA and a .925 SV%, along with two shutouts.

Today, Logan Thompson signed a six-year extension with the Capitals, carrying an average annual value of $5.85m. Signing a former Stanley Cup champion with impressive statistics this season on the club for a reasonable AAV is a win for GM Chris Patrick. Seeing Jeremy Swayman signing for $8.25m earlier this season, wishing to ‘reset the goaltending market.’ Following up with Igor Shesterkin’s massive ticket, the Capitals are getting their goaltending locked in at a reasonable number.

Washington Capitals General Manager Chris Patrick had the following statement regarding the signing: ‘We are pleased to sign Logan to a multi-year contract. Logan has demonstrated that he is one of the top goaltenders in the NHL this season and since he joined the league With his size and exceptional athleticism, we are confident that this signing will enhance one of the most critical positions on our team, especially as he enters the prime years of his career.’
