The Manitoba Moose have announced that they have signed defenseman Dylan Anhorn, a captain and fifth-year defenseman from St. Cloud State University.
Union Career
Dylan Anhorn started his collegiate career with the Union College Garnet Chargers, where he spent three years. Anhorn had a great start to his collegiate career, playing in all 37 games of their season, where he had six goals and ten assists for 16 points. He had 22 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +3. Anhorn did not play his sophomore year due to COVID. In the two seasons that Anhorn got to play in, Anhorn played in 66 games where he had 13 goals and 23 assists for 36 points. He had 28 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +2.
St. Cloud State Career
After entering the transfer portal, Anhorn joined St. Cloud State University. In the 2022-23 season, his first with the Huskies, he played in 23 games where he had five goals and 20 assists for 25 points. He had 12 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +15. Anhorn had a freak off-ice warmup accident towards the end of January last season, which saw his season end early.
After his injury, Anhorn was left with a bitter taste in his mouth, bringing him to the decision to come back to St. Cloud for a fifth collegiate season this year. This season, Anhorn played in all 38 games for the Huskies, scoring six goals and 27 assists for 33 points. He had 34 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +14. Anhorn was ninth in goals, first in assists, and second in points on St. Cloud’s 2023-24 roster.
Through his two seasons as a Husky, Anhorn played in 61 games, where he had 11 goals and 47 assists for 58 points. He had 46 penalty minutes and a plus/minus of +29.
Anhorn finishes his career at St. Cloud tied for 30th in goals, tied for 16th in assists, and tied for 20th in points among all Husky defensemen.
Leadership
In only his second season at St. Cloud, Anhorn earned himself the honors of wearing the “C” and captaining the St. Cloud State Men’s Hockey Team for the 2023-24 season. It is not very common for a player to become the captain in only their second season with a team, but that just goes to show the type of person Anhorn is. He is a player and a person who will do anything for his team to help them succeed, on or off the ice. He is a player that you can rely on to get the job done, and to excel at it.
Accolades
Through his five collegiate seasons, Anhorn has received many awards. With Union, Anhorn was named to the ECAC Hockey All-Rookie Team, the AHCA All-American Scholar, and received the Union Freshman Athletic Prize, which is given to a male athlete who is a first-year for their ability, achievement, participation, and attitude in intercollegiate sports at Union College. Anhorn was also named to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team all three seasons he was at Union.
At St. Cloud, Anhorn was named Defenseman of the Week twice; he received All-NCHC Honorable Mention honors his first year and was named to the All-NCHC First Team this year. Anhorn was also nominated for the Hobey Baker Award both years, which is given out to the top collegiate player, and he was also a finalist for the NCHC’s Offensive Defenseman of the Year award.
