Mariners Sign Forward from University of New England

David Bates/UNE Athletics

The Maine Mariners’ have announced the signing of forward Garrett Devine. This comes after recent call-ups of the Mariners’ two top forwards, Alex Kile and Adam Mechura. Kile leads with 59 points so far this season, while Mechura is right behind him with 39 points. Kile has gone to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL, and Mechura is now with the Providence Bruins of the AHL. This absence in the roster called for the addition of another forward, and that forward is Garrett Devine.

Devine hails from Windsor, Colorado, and most recently played at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine, which is only about 30 minutes away from the Mariners’ home in Portland. In the 2023-2024 season, Devine played 27 games and had 15 points from 8 goals and 7 assists. The year prior at UNE, he had 18 points from 11 goals and seven assists in 30 games. From the 2019-2020 season to the 2021-2022 season, Devine played at Providence College. In this entire time, he only had 1 point from one goal in the 2021-2022 season. However, in his first year, he only played in 4 games, then 6 the next year, and 7 games in his final year. Prior to this, there is a notable gap in his resume for the 2018-2019 season, where it appears Devine did not play.

The most recent Mariners acquisition will play in his first game with the team on March 1st when the team faces the Norfolk Admirals on the road. Norfolk is currently 2nd in the North Division standings, and Maine sits in 4th.
