Winnipeg Jets center Mark Scheifele will not travel with the Winnipeg Jets ahead of game six against the St. Louis Blues at Enterprise Center on Friday night.
Mark Scheifele has taken several hard hits from the Blues players throughout the series, but the first period of game five against the Blues was enough to keep him out of the rest of the game. Two of the most noteworthy hits against the Jets’ first-line center were at the hands of Brayden Schenn and Radek Faksa, which sparked noteworthy debate during the game and post-game from the team’s respective coaches.
Jim Montgomery, head coach of the St. Louis Blues, implied that the Scheifele injury was a direct result of Faksa’s hit. On the other end, Scott Arniel, head coach of the Winnipeg Jets, was adamant that the injury was a direct result of Brayden Schenn’s hit.
The following day, the Jets were travelling to St. Louis to get ready for their matchup on Friday, May 2nd, but they scheduled an early afternoon media availability before their departure. Scott Arniel mentioned ahead of the Jets’ departure that Scheifele will not travel with the team and gave no update on Scheifele’s teammate, Nikolaj Ehlers.
Ehlers remains out, but has skated in a non-contact jersey, and his status hasn’t officially been upgraded to day-to-day. As far as it’s known, Schiefele’s status remains day-to-day, likely in concussion protocol, but official confirmation from either Scott Arniel or the Winnipeg Jets public relations team is needed.
The Jets face the Blues on Friday, May 2nd at Enterprise Centre. Puck drop is set for 7:00 pm CST.
