The Winnipeg Jets have re-signed forward Mason Shaw to a one-year, two-way contract worth an average annual value in the NHL of $775,000.
Shaw is coming off his first season in the Winnipeg Jets organization, playing for the Manitoba Moose and posting a team-leading 37 points (17G, 20A) in 72 games. The Moose’s alternate captain also finished second in goals.
The former fourth-round pick (97th overall) of the Minnesota Wild in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft was not tendered a qualifying offer in the 2024 and 2025 offseasons. Shaw spent most of his time in Minnesota with the team’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Iowa Wild, a team that is a big rival to the Moose.
The 26-year-old, listed at 5-foot-10, was never afraid to mix it up with opponents either. He proved that his physical edge was incredibly valuable for the Moose as he constantly found himself at the centre of scrums, sticking up for his teammates. He finished second on the Moose in penalty minutes with 114 PIMs.
While Shaw did not receive a qualifying offer from the Winnipeg Jets on June 30th, the team and Shaw agreed to terms on a deal with guaranteed money to ensure organizational depth.
When the 2025-26 season rolls around, Shaw will battle for a spot on the Winnipeg Jets, but will likely find himself being one of the first insurance callups if the Jets run into injury issues. He will resume his leadership role with the Moose and mentor younger players like Brad Lambert, Nikita Chibrikov, Colby Barlow and more in the upcoming season.
