The Colorado Avalanche and Miles Wood have agreed to terms on a six-year contract worth $2.5 million annually. Miles Wood has been a critical asset for the physical style of play with the New Jersey Devils, the loss of Wood leaves a hole on the team’s roster.
Miles Wood was drafted 100th overall in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, but he wouldn’t make his NHL debut until the 2015-16 season. Miles Wood would get his full-time NHL spot in the 2016-17 season after being called up from the Albany Devils. Since then, Wood has played 402 games scoring 78 goals and 70 assists for 148 points for the Devils. More notably, Wood posted 427 penalty minutes with the Devils.
Colorado now has a golden goose depth player that will protect the star players, however, Wood can also put up 20 to 30 points per season. Wood will be a solid third-line player in Colorado, and this will help the Avalanche be more competitive come playoff time.
