The Minnesota Wild are rumored to be shopping forward Marco Rossi as talks between the two sides seem to be coming up empty. Rossi has been in the trade rumor mill since the postseason as the restricted free agent questioned his ice time, particularly in the playoffs. The 23-year-old center is seeking a lucrative, long-term contract, and the Wild seem to be resisting.
Wild General Manager Bill Guerin and Rossi have been negotiating a contract, but an agreement on Rossi’s value has yet to come. It was reported that Rossi turned down a 5-year, $25 million contract and a shorter-term offer last week. His contract was for $863,334 annually over three years, and that ended at the end of the 2024-25 season. Rossi is believed to be asking for $7 million per year.

There are teams interested in a potential trade for Rossi, and the Boston Bruins could be a good fit. The Wild are spreading the word that a draft pick would not be the ideal return. The team would rather get a player in return with a pick as a sweetener. The Bruins have restricted forward Morgan Geekie, who tallied a career-high 33 goals this season, as a possible trade chip. Young center Matt Poitras could also be included in a deal involving Rossi as well.
Rossi was a first-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, ninth overall. and posted his best numbers in the NHL this season with 24 goals and 36 assists. The Austrian collected two goals in six postseason games as well. The Bruins also hold the seventh overall draft pick in the upcoming 2025 NHL Draft and may be open to trading the pick.
