Today, the Minnesota Wild called Daemon Hunt up from the Iowa Wild. This is Hunt’s second year with the Iowa Wild. Hunt will be making his NHL debut in sweater number 48 with Minnesota. Hunt played well for the Wild during the preseason but was put into concussion protocol before being cleared to Iowa. So far this season in Iowa, Hunt has seven penalty minutes and four shots during four games.
Hunt joins Iowa Wild captain Dakota Mermis with Minnesota. Mermis was called up from Iowa before the three-game road trip to Canada. Goligoski was injured during the road trip, and Mermis stepped into the lineup.
Hunt is a two-way defenseman who has been showing steady growth while in Iowa. While he doesn’t shy away from the physical aspect of the sport, he is also versatile and can put up some points. His strength lies in his ability to do a little bit of everything. The only downside to Hunt seems to be his tendency toward injury. His play has been hampered by a series of untimely accidents that have taken him out of valuable experiences. If he can stay healthy, Hunt has a bright future as an NHL defenseman who can get his first taste of the real NHL while he’s up with the Minnesota Wild.
Currently, the Wild have two defensemen out with injury. Jared Spurgeon is out week-to-week with an upper-body injury, while Alex Goligoski was placed on LTIR last week. While the Wild play the Edmonton Oilers at home on Tuesday, they start a three-game road trip on Thursday and need to carry an extra defenseman for insurance purposes.
