The Boston Bruins have been the best team in the NHL all season, as they sit at the top of the standings with a 38-7-5 record and 81 points. They have been able to achieve this success while dealing with a handful of injuries all season long.
Their most recent and notable one has been forward Jake DeBrusk, who, after his heroic two-goal third period in the 2023 Winter Classic, he has been sidelined with multiple injuries since.
Although Boston is still an impressive 9-3-1 since then, three of the four losses have come in the last three games. The powerplay has also struggled and is currently in a 0-for-13 slump and could use some infusion of life with the return of DeBrusk.
However, according to Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald, Jim Montgomery shared a positive update this morning:
”Montgomery said he’d be “shocked” if DeBrusk wasn’t ready for the Washington game when Bruins come back from break.”
The return of DeBrusk following the All-Star break is exactly what this team needs to get back on track. The 26-year-old winger brings energy, physicality, and speed to this team, and it is evident they have been missing it, especially on the power play.
Prior to the injury, DeBrusk was on pace for a career year as he had 16 goals and 14 assists in 34 games.
The Bruins resume play following the All-Star break on February 11th when they host the Washington Capitals at TD Garden.
